In fact, the certification symbolizes an appreciation of the quality of managing by an external assessor (certifying organism), an appreciation of the good practices within an organization. The ISO 14001:2015 standard has the declared purpose of sustaining the environmental protection and preventing pollution through a systematic environmental management regarding the areas and activities that have an impact on the surroundings. A systematic approach of this standard through obtaining a certification requires the organization to give special attention to all the areas in which it’s activities have an impact on the environment. The environmental management systems that are congruent with the ISO 14001 standard have a systemic and dynamic approach, applying the principle of continuous improvement. They imply first of all identifying the causes and then intervening on them in order to stop or at least diminish their negative effects on the environment.

Both the management of quality according to the ISO 9001 standard and the management of environmental protection according to the ISO 14001 standard are structured on the progressive concept of continuous improvement.
